THROUGH THE LENS OF LEGACY-THE LIFE AND WORK OF BOB IVORY
Gerald Robert “Bob” Ivory Jr., born November 9, 1926, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, became one of East Tennessee’s most beloved photographers, leaving a lasting mark on the communities of Dayton, Harriman, and Kingston.
After founding Ivory Studio, Bob quickly became known for his exceptional portrait work, wedding photography, and his formal documentation of local business leaders across the decades. During his years in Dayton, from the late 1950’s through the 1960’s he was an active member of the Dayton Chamber of Commerce and played an instrumental role in documenting numerous Strawberry Festival events, capturing the spirit of the town’s most cherished celebration.
His calm presence and expert eye made him a trusted figure at family milestones, civic gatherings, and community traditions. Bob’s images weren’t just photos—they were historical records of life in small-town Tennessee. His dedication to preserving local legacy through the lens made him a cherished part of many families’ stories.
Bob passed away peacefully at his home in Kingston on May 12, 2020, at the age of 93, preceded in death by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Springer. He left behind a loving family including five children, nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
