Bryan College Staff and Students Walk from Bryan Campus to Courthouse For Celebration

On Thursday, September 18, 1980, the staff and students made a walk off the hill from Bryan campus to the Rhea County Courthouse for a 50th Anniversary Celebration. Bryan University held opening exercises on September 18, 1930. Theodore C. Mercer expressed publicly, "On this significant occasion, the college wishes to express its gratitude to God for His providential direction in the affairs of the college and to thanks the local community for its friendship and support through fifty years".  The celebration included a 50-foot birthday cake, cokes and ice cream. The Bryan College Band was also on hand providing music. Multiple exhibits and displays were also featured. Today in 2021, the college is in their 91st year at their original location.

    I loved Dr. Mercer. I can see him leading that crowd with a smile on his face and his head held high!
